About The Artiste(s)
Priyadarsini Govind is amongst the foremost Bharatanatyam dancers in India today. Blessed with a scintillating stage presence, she excels in both pure dance (Nritta) and expression (Abhinaya). After initial grooming from the age of nine under Smt. Usha, Priyadarsini specialized in abhinaya under 'Padma Bhushan' Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan. Priyadarsini also received advanced training in Bharatanatyam under Guru Swamimalai K. Rajaratnam, an exponent of the Vazhvoor School. Priyadarsini has been performing on stage from the age of sixteen, and has performed in numerous Sabhas and Academies in India and abroad.
Priyadarsini also holds the title of 'Kalaimamani' awarded by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1998, an award given for artistic excellence. Priyadarsini also underwent training in ‘Kalaripayattu’, the martial art form of Kerala and ‘Nattuvangam’, the art of wielding cymbals, from Kalashetra. In addition to performing, Priyadarsini has produced several dance DVDs, which have been appreciated by dance teachers and students alike.
