Smt. Gayathri Venkataraghavan began her training in Carnatic music under the tutelage of Smt. Rajalakshmi and then under Smt. Padma Veeraraghavan. She also underwent special training in kritis from Smt. Rukmini Ramani, Sri V Subramaniam and Smt. Lakshmi Natarajan.
She has been under the tutelage of Vidwan Sri A Sundaresan for many years now. Shi is an ‘A’ grade accredited artiste of All India Radio. She has won various prizes, significant among them being the Tambura prize for Thyagaraja Kritis from The Indian Fine Arts, the Kalki Krishnamoorthy Award and the Nada Oli Award. She has won the All India Radio National level competition in 1993.
She has performed in all the important festivals in India. In 2005, she performed at the Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival in Ohio, USA and at Toronto in Canada.
