ROOTS
Guru Vijayakumar hails from a traditional family of Carnatic Musicians. His initial training was under his father, Shri.V. Ramabadran, a Samasthana Vidwan of Pudukkottai State, and his mother, Smt. Subbulakshmi, a Sangeetha Vidwamsini from the Tamil Nadu Govt. Music College.​ He then had his advanced training under Violin Maestro Shri.Lalgudi Jayaraman for 25 years.

GRADED ARTIST OF ALL INDIA RADIO
Guru Vijayakumar holds a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Madras, and is a B-High graded artiste of All India Radio.

TEACHING AND PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE
He has been awarded Fellowship in Classical Music by the Govt. of India (1997 – 1999) for a project work – Thillanas. Guru Vijayakumar also composed music for his students at Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society,
Singapore which won First Prize in the competition held by the National Arts Council, Singapore in the year 2002. He also participated as a violinist in the Orchestra of the "SUNADHA PRAVAGAM", a musical programme
composed and conducted by Shri.Lalgudi Jayaraman and Shri.Lalgudi GJR Krishnan under the Singapore Arts Festival 2004 at Victoria Concert Hall, Singapore.

SINGAPORE INDIAN FINE ARTS SOCIETY
Guru Vijayakumar was a tutor at SIFAS from 2001 — 2002. He re-joined SIFAS in July 2023.
