Rules and Regulations

ADMISSIONS

MEMBERSHIP & ELIGIBILITY 
  • SIFAS is a society of members. Each student above 18 years of age must become a member of the SIFAS society in order to enroll in the Academy.
  • The membership is for the family and extends to the member’s spouse and children below the age of 18.
  • Annual Ordinary membership Fee is $100 per year. Life membership fee is $1000.
  • Members who join between July and December, the ordinary membership fee is $50.
  • Membership renewals are due in January of each year irrespective of the month of joining as a member.
  • Failure to renew membership before 31st March will disqualify a member and his/her children (if tagged under the same membership) from taking classes at SIFAS. 
MINIMUM AGE OF ENROLMENT 
  • Members’ children aged 6 and above may enrol for the Dance/Music/Visual Arts preparatory classes.
  • However, they are not eligible to register for the 1st year examination until they are 7 years old. 
ASSESSMENT OF MID-STREAM STUDENTS 
  • Students joining the Academy from another institution are required to meet with the discipline tutors, who will assess the student and determine the year of admission.
  • Such students will only be allowed to join up to the fourth year and take the examination upon completion of at least 1 year at SIFAS.
HOW TO ENROL 
SPECIAL CLASSES 
​Step 1 - As mentioned above, the first step is the member registration.
Step 2 - There is a compulsory one -time non- refundable student registration fee of $100 payable on admission to the Academy. A $50 registration fees will be charged for every additional student (from second student onwards) under the same member.
Step 3- All new students must pay a deposit equivalent to 1-month fee for each discipline enrolled, which is held to adjust unpaid fees if the student withdraws without giving required notice. The deposit is refunded in case of clean withdrawal (no pending invoice). 


  • After registering as a member, studentship registration is made under the membership and class assigned.
  • Students will be required to make payments for membership, registration, and a one-month deposit along with their first month tuition fees.
  • Students who join an additional discipline at any point during the Academic Year will be required to pay a one-month refundable deposit for the new discipline. 
  • Students/Persons, who are visiting Singapore or wish to take classes for very short periods, are allowed to join the Academy to take special classes.
  • They are required to pay one-time non-refundable registration fee of $100 at the time of joining.
  • The tuition fee will be at a rate of S$75/- per hour and must be paid along with the registration fee.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

BURSARY & SCHOLARSHIP 
  • SIFAS offers financial assistance by way of Bursary to Singapore Citizens and PR students with financial difficulty so that they are not deprived of learning Indian Fine Arts and the experience of a rich culture.
  • Bursary scheme is available according to family income- a) SIFAS- SINDA to be tapped under the MoU, for students qualifying the following criteria – If a member’s per capita household income is less than or equal to $1,000, a student will get a fee subsidy of 90% capped at $1,000 per year .b) SIFAS – LEE Foundation Bursary - If a member’s per capita household income is between the range $1,001 to $1,500 then the eligible students will get a fee subsidy of 75% maximum per year capped at $ 1000 per year.
  • Bursary applications are only applicable for students 18 years or younger. Scholarship is also available for non-Indians interested in joining SIFAS. 

MONTHLY TUITION FEES

TUITION FEES
  • A monthly tuition fee is payable based on the number of tuition hours, class type and year of study.
  • All monthly tuition fees are due by 14th of each month with the exception of December tuition fees, which is due on 14th November.
  • Students who do not pay their monthly tuition fees by the 14th of the month will be required to pay a $5 late charge per discipline, per student, per month.
  • Failure to make payment of tuition fees for two consecutive months will result in automatic suspension of studentship. Failure to make payment of tuition fees for three consecutive months will result in automatic termination of studentship and forfeiture of deposit.
  • Tuition fees are collected during the term breaks, including the month of December. 

BUNDLE DISCOUNT

DISCOUNT
  • If members with student(s) who are enrolled in three disciplines or more, each student is eligible for a bundle discount of 10% on 6 months cumulative tuition fees for their respective disciplines.
  • Bundle discounts are paid in the months of January and July for those who must be enrolled for the previous six months. Students will not be eligible for Bundle Discounts if they have changed their disciplines. 

CLASSES

CHANGE OF TIME / TUTOR/ CLASS TYPE 
  • Students attending group classes can make only one change to their timetable in any academic year, as frequent changes affect the progress of the other members in the group.
  • The students are not encouraged to change tutor but under exceptional.
  • Students are not allowed to either change the time of class or the tutor three months prior to the annual examinations.
  • In cases where withdrawal of a student results in change of group class to double or single, the Academy will make its best efforts for the remaining students to join another group class. In circumstances where this is not feasible, students are required to pay the fees due in accordance with the new class type from the following month. 
DISRUPTION & COMPENSATION OF CLASSES 
  • Classes may be disrupted from time to time to hold rehearsals for students participating in external, programmes/annual events. While these disruptions will be kept to a minimum, classes will be compensated, based on the availability provided by the respective tutor. Parents and students will be duly informed.
  • Classes will be compensated for non-exam going students during the exam season.
  • No compensation classes will be given to the students who are absent from classes.
WITHDRAWAL
  • Students who wish to withdraw from class(es) are required to submit the withdrawal form by the 20th of the last attending month. Failure to submit on time will result in the forfeiture of the deposit. 
  • Students who have withdrawn will be considered as new admission when enrolled back in SIFAS at a later date. 
EXAMINATIONS
  • Regular classes will not be held during examinations.
  • There will be no compensation classes for exam going students.
BREAK
  • Students who wish to take a break for personal reasons can do so for a period of one to three months.
  • A re-registration fee of $100 applies upon returning to class, irrespective of break period.
  • Students are not allowed to take a break for the months of June, October, November and December. 
ATTIRE
  • Students must be appropriately attired at all times preferably in traditional Indian clothes.
  • Students attending dance classes must be dressed comfortably and suitably. Cotton is a good choice of fabric.
  • Parents and guests/visitors are requested to be appropriately attired at all times and especially during concerts and performances in smart casual or traditional Indian clothes.
